DOCTOR MOM PHENOMENA:    A survey of 2,000 U.S. adults found women are more likely than men to say they take care of themselves while they have a respiratory tract infection (RTI), such as bronchitis, sinus infection and pneumonia. Men are almost twice as likely as women to report that their spouse takes care of them while they are sick, according to the respiratory infection survey conducted by Opinion Research Corporation International.

The survey also reveals more women feel guilty about missing responsibilities while sick with an RTI and more than twice as many women than men say the worst thing about getting sick is that they can't take care of their family.  "Score one for conventional wisdom, in that the research supports the stereotype of 'Dr. Mom' managing the health care needs for her family." Paul Iannini, M.D., clinical professor at Yale University.
